Key Takeaways:

MoonPay added Kamino, a top Solana lending protocol, to PayBox, letting ChatGPT and Claude users lend and borrow via conversation. The integration, announced Aug. 27, lets eligible users supply assets, earn yield or borrow against collateral without opening a DeFi app or manually preparing a transaction.
"Kamino has built one of Solana's leading lending platforms, and bringing it into PayBox is a major expansion of what people can do with money through AI," Ivan Soto-Wright, chief executive officer and founder of MoonPay, said. "Users can now go from a simple instruction to an onchain lending position without leaving Claude or ChatGPT, while PayBox manages permissions and secure execution."
PayBox, launched in July 2026, connects AI assistants to payments and on-chain transactions without exposing private keys. Wallet keys are protected using threshold cryptography and secure enclaves, preventing any single party from independently signing transactions. Users choose between an "Always Ask" setting requiring passkey approval for every transaction and an "Autonomous" option that lets the AI execute within preset limits, with access revocable at any time.
Kamino operates shared lending pools on Solana, where suppliers earn interest paid by borrowers and rates shift with demand and market utilization. The plugin is live in PayBox but unavailable in the U.S., U.K., European Union and Australia. MoonPay's financial infrastructure business serves more than 30 million customers across 180 countries and 1,700 enterprise clients.
The move pushes MoonPay further into agentic finance, where AI assistants execute financial actions rather than just answer questions. By replacing the wallet-and-protocol workflow with a conversation, the integration offers an early test of whether AI can become the default interface for DeFi — and whether Solana's lending markets capture a share of that flow. The geographic restrictions mean the initial rollout targets markets outside the four largest Western economies, a constraint that could shape how quickly agentic DeFi gains traction.
