Key Takeaways:

WeRide (WRD, 0800.HK) will join the HKEX Tech 100 Index on September 14, one of 10 companies added in the first rebalancing under Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing's enhanced methodology.
The inclusion reflects WeRide's strengths in both technological innovation and commercialization, the company said in a statement, pointing to its leading position in the Physical AI sector. Autonomous driving is the first Physical AI application to achieve large-scale commercialization, generating real-world data feedback loops and sustainable paid operations, WeRide said.
WeRide reported second-quarter revenue of US$34.2 million, up 82 percent year-on-year and 103 percent quarter-on-quarter, with gross margin improving to 37.5 percent, up 9.4 percentage points from a year earlier. The company's L4 fleet spans 13 countries and 60 cities with about 3,400 vehicles, including more than 1,800 Robotaxis, and its WRD 3.0 ADAS solution delivered roughly 30,000 units in the quarter with mass-production nominations for more than 30 vehicle models.
The index inclusion makes WeRide eligible for related index-linked products and is expected to enhance its visibility within Hong Kong's technology investment ecosystem, following its Dual Primary Listing on Nasdaq and the Hong Kong Stock Exchange and inclusion in Stock Connect in June. The rebalancing also added Pony AI, Insilico Medicine and Montage Technology, while removing 14 constituents including Bilibili and NetEase Cloud Music.
The HKEX Tech 100 Index, launched in December 2025, tracks 100 large- and mid-cap companies eligible for Southbound Stock Connect across six themes including artificial intelligence, electric vehicles and intelligent driving, and robotics. Constituents include Tencent, Alibaba and Xiaomi. The latest review is the first under the enhanced methodology announced August 18, which broadens coverage of emerging technology trends across the AI value chain. Companies must meet requirements tied to technology-theme relevance, listing history, liquidity, and thresholds for research and development investment or revenue growth, with constituents selected on average daily market capitalization ranking over the preceding 12 months.
WeRide's Robotaxi services have achieved fully driverless commercial operations in four cities across two countries, including Guangzhou and Beijing in China and Abu Dhabi and Dubai in the United Arab Emirates, with public operations launched in Singapore and Riyadh. The company works with global mobility platforms including Uber and Grab under an asset-light model to scale across international markets, and has begun road testing in Germany, France and Japan.
The stock has drawn a mixed reception despite strong operating results, with four of WeRide's five recent news events producing negative 24-hour reactions, according to StockTitan data. The index inclusion adds a passive-demand channel that could support trading liquidity as the company expands commercialization across Asia, the Middle East and Europe, while the simultaneous growth of Robotaxi operations, international expansion and ADAS mass-production deliveries provides measurable fundamental support for its long-term competitiveness in Physical AI.
