Arthur Hayes buys 244,406 UNI for $1.73 million at $7.06 per token via Flowdesk OTC on Sept. 5, on-chain data from @EmberCN shows.
@EmberCN, an on-chain analyst who tracks whale accumulation across major desks, flagged the transaction on X. Hayes, co-founder of BitMEX and one of crypto's most-followed commentators, executed the purchase through Flowdesk, a Paris-based OTC trading firm, at a slight discount to UNI's prevailing market price of $7.12.
UNI on Ethereum was trading at $7.18 as of 00:55 UTC on Sept. 6. Technical indicators show the token in a bullish structure, with the 50-day EMA at $5.77 and 200-day EMA at $4.66 providing layered support. RSI(14) sits at 73.67, flashing overbought, while MACD prints a golden cross at 0.34. The token is testing upper Bollinger resistance at $7.09, and a retracement toward the 50-day EMA appears probable before further upside.
Hayes' accumulation arrived without an obvious proximate trigger. No governance proposals, protocol upgrades, or market events preceded the purchase, which has led observers to interpret the position as a longer-term bet on Uniswap's governance value. Uniswap is the largest decentralized exchange on Ethereum by trading volume, with UNI token holders governing protocol fee structures and treasury allocations.
The $1.73 million position is modest relative to Hayes' broader crypto portfolio, which includes substantial Bitcoin and Ethereum holdings accumulated over multiple market cycles. His public commentary reaches a wide audience, and the OTC entry at a discount to spot suggests deliberate accumulation rather than market-driven buying. If Hayes follows with public statements on Uniswap governance, the position could draw additional retail attention to UNI. For now, the token's overbought technicals suggest near-term consolidation before any sustained move higher.
