ASTER fell 0.6 percent to $0.6015 as a whale opened a $4.33 million leveraged long and staked $2.42 million on Aster_DEX, per Lookonchain data.
Lookonchain data shows the whale opened a 4x long on 7.2 million ASTER worth $4.33 million on Aster_DEX. The position was already down $322,000 as of press time, with the token trading in a thin range between $0.60 and $0.59. Opening a leveraged position in current market conditions reflects strong optimism from the whale, who may be anticipating a rebound on the charts.
Coinalyze data shows the Long/Short Ratio at 1.77, with longs accounting for 63 percent of open positions. Such a high demand for longs means most derivatives investors are positioned bullish, mirroring the whale's conviction. Staked ASTER on Aster_DEX declined from $283 million to $276 million in August, a drop of more than $7 million, per DefiLlama.
The whale also staked 4.02 million ASTER worth $2.42 million for four years. The decision to stake for the long term is another sign of optimism, implying the whale expects to earn yield regardless of market conditions. Historically, staking has played a major role in reducing supply and absorbing market pressure on Aster_DEX, the decentralized exchange that powers ASTER's trading and yield ecosystem.
Despite the whale's capital deployment, ASTER's bearish structure remains intact. The Stochastic Momentum Index has continued to decline since making a bearish crossover two days ago, and the Chance Momentum Indicator has also fallen and held within the negative zone, per TradingView. Both indicators together hint at the likelihood of the current downtrend continuing, with sellers maintaining control of price action.
If that is the case, ASTER is likely to lose the $0.60 support and drop to $0.58. The token's recent decline has been driven by reduced market activity and a lack of steady capital inflows, even as Bitcoin dominance holds near 56 percent across the broader crypto market. The broader DeFi sector has also faced headwinds, with total value locked across major protocols remaining under pressure in August.
The whale's combined $6.75 million deployment — $4.33 million in leveraged longs and $2.42 million in staking — represents a significant bet on ASTER's recovery. Whether other market participants follow this conviction will determine if the token can defend $0.60 or slide toward $0.58 in the coming sessions. A break below $0.58 would open the door to further downside, while a reclaim of $0.60 could trigger short squeezes given the elevated long positioning.
