Bhutan's Royal Government moved 300 Bitcoin, worth about $19.28 million, to a new wallet on Aug. 18, Onchain Lens reported.
Government wallet movements are closely watched for potential sell pressure, Onchain Lens said in a post on X, flagging the transaction as the latest in a series of on-chain moves from Bhutan's digital asset reserves. The transfer follows last month's deposit of 66 BTC to Binance, suggesting Druk Holding and Investments — Bhutan's sovereign investment arm, which has mined Bitcoin since 2019 using the country's abundant hydropower — is actively managing its treasury. Bhutan is among a small group of governments that hold Bitcoin as part of sovereign wealth strategy, with on-chain data indicating reserves of several thousand BTC accumulated through mining and purchases.
Bitcoin traded at $64,405, up 2.49 percent over the past 24 hours, according to CoinMarketCap, hovering just below the $65,000 resistance level that technical analysts have flagged as the key barrier. The move above $63,000 on Monday broke a narrow trading range that had trapped the price for days, with traders pointing to reduced expectations for a Federal Reserve rate hike in September and a weaker dollar as the macro backdrop supporting risk assets.
The $65,000 level is the key test for the next leg. A clean break and hold above it could extend the move toward the upper part of the recent range. But the broader picture remains unconvincing: CryptoQuant's volatility-adjusted momentum has fallen below zero, the Coinbase Premium Index is still negative, and Bitcoin ETFs recorded net outflows last week. Exchange inflows have dropped sharply while funding rates and open interest have cooled, meaning fewer coins sit on exchanges ready to sell and leveraged traders are less aggressively positioned.
If ETF flows improve and Coinbase demand strengthens, the breakout above $63,000 could develop into a broader recovery. If those signals stay weak, the move may remain a relief rally driven mainly by lighter selling and short covering. Bhutan's transfer to a new wallet — rather than directly to an exchange — may indicate a custody change or internal treasury management, though observers will watch for any subsequent deposits to exchanges as a signal of intent. The amounts involved are small relative to daily trading volumes, so the immediate market impact is likely limited, but the transparency of Bhutan's on-chain activity contributes to the growing legitimacy of Bitcoin as a sovereign reserve asset.
