A Bitcoin wallet dormant since 2017 moved 5,908 BTC valued at $383 million to a new address on July 15, blockchain data show.
"The coins were received on Dec. 14, 2017, when Bitcoin traded near $17,000, and have appreciated roughly $285.5 million, representing a 291% gain," Galaxy Research said in a post identifying the sender as "Noah Doe #27 – Salomon Client Dusted."
The funds were transferred from a legacy "1" address to a newer bc1q format, which supports lower fees and modern wallet standards. Arkham Intelligence data show the destination address is unlabeled and not linked to any known exchange, suggesting the move may represent a custody upgrade rather than an imminent sale. The transfer occurred in Bitcoin block 958217 at approximately 00:15 UTC.
The movement comes as Bitcoin trades near $64,000, with on-chain analyst Ali Martinez flagging a spike in Bitcoin's age-consumed metric — a Santiment indicator that tracks previously inactive coins changing addresses. Elevated readings have historically preceded periods of heightened volatility, though the direction of the next move remains uncertain.
The wallet's revival adds to a pattern of long-dormant Bitcoin addresses becoming active in 2026. In January, a Satoshi-era wallet transferred 2,000 BTC worth roughly $180 million to Coinbase after remaining untouched since 2010. CryptoQuant analyst J.A. Maartun described the trend as a "great redistribution," during which Bitcoin held by long-term holders has been transferred to new owners in several waves.
Galaxy Research's identification ties the address to the Noah Doe litigation, a May 2026 case in which an anonymous plaintiff seeks ownership of approximately 3.8 million dormant Bitcoin. The lawsuit targets more than 39,000 inactive addresses, including many believed to belong to Bitcoin creator Satoshi Nakamoto, arguing the coins were effectively abandoned.
From a technical perspective, Bitcoin is holding above the $63,840 level, which has flipped from resistance to support on the hourly chart, according to analysis shared on TradingView by StudyGuideTA. A sustained hold above that threshold could open a path toward $65,741, while a break below would bring the daily support zone near $60,438 into focus.
TradingView's composite technical rating for Bitcoin was Neutral as of mid-July, with the RSI at 52 and the ADX at 24 — readings consistent with a market lacking a strong directional trend. The 50-day EMA near $64,954 and the 100-day EMA around $68,200 represent overhead resistance that would need to be cleared for a sustained recovery.
