Cyber Capital's Justin Bons called for Charles Hoskinson's ouster, triggering a fierce backlash from the Cardano community.

Justin Bons, founder and CIO of Cyber Capital, Europe's oldest crypto investment fund, called for Charles Hoskinson's removal from Cardano in a viral post on X on June 16, accusing the founder of attempting to centralize governance discussions within a moderated Discord server.
"Cardano has to kick @IOHK_Charles out! The final straw is attempting to centralize governance discussion within a moderated Discord server," Bons wrote. "IOHK failed to deliver; ADA's max capacity is 23 TPS in 2026."
The proposal from Hoskinson aims to professionalize Cardano's Voltaire-era governance by shifting strategic discussions to a moderated Discord community, modeled after the success of his Midnight project. The goal is to reduce noise and algorithmic amplification on X, where governance debates frequently dominate timelines. Bons argued the move represents censorship risk, drawing historical parallels to Bitcoin's early forum battles on Bitcointalk and Reddit, which he said concentrated power among aligned factions.
"By forcing the issue and voting NO on all proposals not in the Discord, they are effectively centralizing discussion in a centrally controlled location," Bons said. "Giving the IOHK faction effective censorship power over the discussion."
The post triggered a wave of responses exposing deep divisions inside Cardano. CardanoRami, co-founder of the Snek project, defended the Discord move, saying most users are "extremely tired of the timeline getting flooded with governance proposals, debates, and DReps getting tagged." Cardano Constitutional Delegate CashAnvil delivered a sharper rebuke, telling Bons he does "nothing to contribute to the Cardano ecosystem besides FUD."
Not all reactions were one-sided. Some community members recalled how Cardano once mocked Solana for coordinating via a "Discord cabal," while remaining open to neutral moderation through entities such as Intersect. Others argued the Discord move represents "proper containment" for professional discussion, shielding substantive debate from public platforms like X.
The episode highlights Cardano's persistent challenges as it prepares for key funding proposals and technical upgrades, including the upcoming Ouroboros Leios upgrade. The network faces criticism over real-world adoption, throughput limitations, and governance friction — tensions that could test the resilience of its stakeholder-driven model as Voltaire-era governance takes shape. For ADA holders, the outcome of this debate may set a precedent for how the network balances open discourse with efficient decision-making.
