Lenovo Group (00992.HK) opened its new regional headquarters in Riyadh, advancing a strategic expansion into the Middle East, Turkiye and Africa (META) funded by a $2 billion investment from Saudi Arabia's Alat.
The new headquarters will serve as the central hub for the technology giant's operations across more than 60 markets in the META region. The company aims to improve decision-making efficiency and local responsiveness for customers and partners in these markets.
This move solidifies a strategic partnership that began in May 2024, when Alat, a subsidiary of Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund (PIF), invested $2 billion in the world's largest PC maker. The deal provides Lenovo with significant capital and a powerful partner to accelerate its growth in the region.
For Saudi Arabia, the partnership is a key component of its strategy to diversify its economy away from oil. The agreement includes plans to establish an advanced manufacturing base in the country, which is expected to create a significant number of local jobs and contribute to the nation's non-oil gross domestic product.
The collaboration gives Lenovo a strong foothold in a rapidly growing technology market, potentially leading to preferential access to large-scale government and enterprise contracts as Saudi Arabia continues its ambitious economic transformation.
