MicroCloud Hologram Inc. plans to invest $400 million to develop a quantum-resistant upgrade for the Bitcoin protocol, the technology service provider announced on April 6, 2026.
"We will participate in the research and development of a quantum-resistant Bitcoin protocol and work towards building a secure cryptographic infrastructure for the quantum era," the company said in a statement.
The investment from MicroCloud Hologram (NASDAQ: HOLO) is aimed at addressing the long-term threat that quantum computers pose to current cryptographic standards, including those used by Bitcoin. The project will focus on creating and implementing post-quantum cryptography (PQC) to safeguard the blockchain's integrity.
This move could significantly bolster long-term confidence in Bitcoin's security, potentially influencing other blockchain projects like Ethereum to follow suit. The development may also spark debate within the Bitcoin community regarding the feasibility and timeline for such a fundamental protocol change, while driving speculative interest in the broader post-quantum cryptography sector.
