Phunware Inc. (NASDAQ: PHUN) appointed Dmitry Kroshka as chief executive officer and engaged a product consultancy led by a former Disney+ executive to accelerate its push into artificial intelligence for the hospitality and healthcare sectors. The move is central to the company's "Product 2.0 Strategy," which aims to unify its mobile and location-aware tools into a single AI-driven platform for large properties.
"Phunware is entering a defining chapter," Dmitry Kroshka, the newly appointed Chief Executive Officer of Phunware, said in a statement. "Our objective now is to turn that foundation into focused execution."
The company has a strong installed base, a disciplined product portfolio, and a strong cash position with no debt. Phunware's AI Concierge module, released in January, has seen engagement running approximately 40 percent above internal forecasts. The company also reported customer retention rates above 95 percent in its first-quarter 2026 results. To accelerate its product strategy, Phunware has engaged Build Something Product Group (BSPG), an AI-first consultancy founded by Michael Cerdá, who previously led product teams for Disney+, the Apple Card at Goldman Sachs, and Facebook Newsfeed.
The leadership change signals a strategic shift to focus on "Guest Intelligence," helping operators in hospitality and healthcare understand and react to on-property guest behavior in real time, a capability traditional CRM and marketing technology systems often lack. While competitors like Oracle offer established hospitality solutions, Phunware aims to differentiate by integrating real-time location data with AI-driven personalization. The company plans to display its new offerings at the HITEC North America 2026 conference.
