Sportradar Group AG was hit with a securities class action lawsuit after losing $800 million in market value on short seller fraud allegations.
"Sportradar intentionally cultivated a network of black-market gambling partners as a business strategy, despite assuring investors of strict legal and regulatory compliance," the complaint filed in the Southern District of New York alleges.
The lawsuit covers investors who bought Sportradar Class A ordinary shares between Nov. 7, 2024, and April 21, 2026. The stock plunged more than 22% on April 22 after Muddy Waters Research and Callisto Research published separate reports accusing the company of misleading investors about the legality of its revenue sources.
Investors have until July 17 to seek appointment as lead plaintiff. The case, Smale v. Sportradar Group AG, also names certain top executives as defendants for alleged violations of the Securities Exchange Act of 1934.
The lawsuit alleges Sportradar's Know-Your-Customer and compliance processes were not as robust as claimed, and that the company's statements about its business and prospects lacked a reasonable basis. Sportradar provides sports data services for the sports betting and media industries.
Robbins Geller Rudman & Dowd LLP, the Rosen Law Firm, and the Schall Law Firm have all announced the class action and are contacting potential lead plaintiffs.
The lawsuit creates significant legal overhang for Sportradar. If the allegations prove valid, the company could face regulatory penalties and forced restructuring of its business model. Investors will watch for any response from Sportradar's management and the outcome of the lead plaintiff selection process.
