VeChain (VET) on April 29 unveiled a series of major updates for 2026, open-sourcing its VeBetterDAO platform and outlining a roadmap that includes artificial intelligence integration and significant network upgrades. The move makes the entire VeBetterDAO stack available on GitHub, allowing developers to directly review and contribute to the ecosystem.
"The company released VeBetterDAO as open source, making its entire stack available in a single GitHub repository so developers can review, improve and extend the platform," according to a company announcement. The project is leaning into open development to accelerate innovation on its platform, which is built on the VeChainThor blockchain.
The VeBetterDAO ecosystem already has more than 5.3 million users and over 50 active applications, according to network metrics. On-chain data shows sustained activity, with 1,839 new wallets registered in a single day and a burn of 319,971 VTHO. Further, the network’s staking system, StarGate, holds approximately 14.1 billion VET tokens, representing a significant portion of the asset's circulating supply locked in the platform’s public Delegated Proof of Stake consensus model.
The roadmap's 'Interstellar' upgrade is set to introduce Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) compatibility with several key standards, including Cancun and Prague. This will enable developers to use standard Ethereum tools like MetaMask, Hardhat, and Foundry directly on VeChainThor, a move that could significantly lower the barrier to entry for developers familiar with the Ethereum ecosystem. The integration of AI agents through a 'Model Context Protocol' will allow these agents to read on-chain data and initiate transactions, positioning VeChain within the growing AI-blockchain narrative.
