CJ3 Gen2 Enters Service With 2,040 Nautical Mile Range
On January 8, 2026, Textron Aviation, a subsidiary of Textron (NYSE: TXT), confirmed the first customer delivery of its new Cessna Citation CJ3 Gen2 business jet. This delivery marks the aircraft's official entry into service after receiving its Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) type certification in October 2025. The initial aircraft was delivered to longtime Citation owners, underscoring the company's strategy of leveraging its established customer base for new product launches.
The CJ3 Gen2 is engineered for performance in the light jet category, offering a maximum range of 2,040 nautical miles (3,778 kilometers) and a maximum payload capacity of 2,135 pounds (968.4 kg). These specifications enable the aircraft to perform a variety of missions, bolstering Textron's portfolio against competitors.
Cockpit Redesigned with 4.5 Inches More Pilot Legroom
Textron's design updates for the CJ3 Gen2 were directly shaped by input from a Customer Advisory Board of owners and pilots. A key ergonomic enhancement is the addition of 4.5 inches of pilot legroom, which improves comfort and simplifies cockpit entry and exit. The flight deck is equipped with the latest Garmin G3000 avionics suite, now standard with Garmin Autothrottles to reduce pilot workload and provide flight-envelope protection.
The cabin, which accommodates up to 10 occupants, is fully customizable and includes new convenience features like an externally serviceable lavatory to streamline ground operations. The customer-centric approach appears to be a key selling point.
After extensive consideration of the competition, there was no equal for handling, service and support, training and reliability in the entry level jet category than the CJ3 Gen2.
