Arbitrum is set to release 92.65 million ARB tokens on July 16, adding $8.53 million in supply to a market where the token has already recovered 28% from its recent lows.
"Token unlocks of this magnitude can create short-term selling pressure, but the actual price impact depends entirely on whether recipients sell or hold," Jason Wu, an on-chain analyst, said. "The team and investor allocations are the ones to watch — those groups have historically been the most likely to take profits."
The unlock represents 1.65% of Arbitrum's current circulating supply of 5.63 billion tokens. Of the 92.65 million ARB being released, 56.13 million will go to the team, future team members, and advisors, while 36.52 million will be allocated to investors, according to The Tokenomist.
ARB traded at $0.0921 as of 14:00 UTC, up from $0.07 earlier this month. The relative strength index stood at 63, indicating buyers hold the advantage without entering overbought territory, while the moving average convergence divergence indicator turned positive, supporting the upward move.
Derivatives market signals mixed
Open interest in ARB futures reached $60.9 million, suggesting more traders are holding active positions. The average funding rate was positive at 0.0083%, meaning long positions outweighed shorts — a setup that can amplify volatility if the market moves against the majority.
A separate development could provide a counterweight to the unlock: 10% of fees collected from Robinhood Chain and other Arbitrum Layer-2 networks will be directed to the Arbitrum ecosystem, adding a growing source of protocol revenue that may factor into the token's longer-term valuation.
The unlock comes as part of a broader wave of token releases this week. Connex will unlock 1.32 million CONX tokens worth $28.67 million on July 15, while deBridge will release 618.33 million DBR tokens valued at $10.13 million on July 17. Other projects including Starknet, Sei, and YZY also have unlocks scheduled.
Whether ARB can hold above $0.09 depends on whether buying demand absorbs the additional supply. If holders choose to stake or lock their newly unlocked tokens rather than sell, the price impact could be muted. If they sell, the token may retest support near $0.07.
