Cardano rose 29% last week to about $0.22 after T.Rowe Price added ADA to its Active Crypto ETF, its first institutional fund allocation.
T.Rowe, which manages $1.87 trillion in assets, now holds 416,620 ADA at a 0.43% weighting in the fund, worth about $81,000, according to the firm's holdings data. The addition reverses an initial snub at the ETF's July launch, when the fund offered Bitcoin and several altcoins but excluded Cardano.
Cardano's decentralized exchange volumes climbed to $4.68 million on Aug. 21 from $1.3 million on Aug. 19, while DeFi total value locked rose to 298 million ADA, DefiLlama data shows. The gains follow a 16.17 percent drop in Cardano DeFi TVL over 24 hours earlier in the week, a sign of volatility in decentralized activity even as the token rallied.
ADA faces resistance at its 200-day moving average near $0.249; a break above that level could push the token toward $0.29, while a fall below $0.196 would weaken the technical setup.
Institutional backing meets on-chain outflows
The ETF inclusion comes barely two weeks after Grayscale withdrew its application for a Cardano ETF on Aug. 10, a move that dragged ADA to $0.196. The token has since recovered those losses, trading at $0.209 on Aug. 21 before extending gains to about $0.22 by Monday.
Momentum indicators show a mixed picture. The relative strength index at 68.5 and the commodity channel index both flag overbought conditions, while the stochastic RSI signals a sell, according to Traders Union analysis. The MACD and average directional index register buy signals, and ADA holds above its 20- and 50-period moving averages on the hourly chart.
Scaling roadmap and network growth
Cardano is progressing on real-world deployments of its Hydra and Leios scaling protocols as part of a strategy targeting 1 billion users, according to Coin Turk. The Cardano Foundation also joined the United Nations Development Programme to run the 2026 SDG Blockchain Accelerator, with applications opening from July to September 2026.
Stablecoin supply on Cardano rose to about $67 million from $65 million on Aug. 8, DefiLlama data shows, as the network prepares for the upcoming Dijkstra upgrade. The broader altcoin market has also strengthened, with XRP up 51 percent over the past week and Bitcoin climbing 6.4 percent to $77,338.
The ETF allocation, while small at 0.43 percent, gives ADA a foothold in a product distributed through T.Rowe's asset-management network, potentially widening the pool of institutional buyers. Whether that translates into sustained demand depends on ADA clearing the $0.249 resistance, with the Dijkstra upgrade and the UNDP accelerator offering fundamental support into the fourth quarter.
