The Hang Seng Tech Index surged 3 percent intraday Friday as MINIMAX and Horizon Robotics each rallied more than 7 percent, extending a tech-led rebound in Hong Kong equities.
The advance came as the broader Hang Seng Index climbed 302 points, or 1.19 percent, to 25,515, snapping a four-session losing streak. The China Enterprises Index rose 1.14 percent to 8,481, while the Technology Index had earlier gained 1.46 percent to 4,533 before accelerating to the 3 percent intraday level.
Tencent Holdings advanced 2.1 percent, Alibaba gained 1.8 percent, JD.com rose 2.5 percent and Meituan added 1.3 percent, contributing to the tech-led advance. Financial names also provided support, with HSBC Holdings up 1.5 percent and AIA Group climbing 2.2 percent. MINIMAX, an artificial-intelligence model developer, and Horizon Robotics, a maker of autonomous-driving chips, led the sector's surge.
The sharp gains in MINIMAX and Horizon Robotics point to sustained investor appetite for Hong Kong-listed companies at the intersection of artificial intelligence and robotics. The broader market's recovery from four consecutive sessions of declines suggests improving risk appetite across Hong Kong-listed equities, with the tech-led advance supported by financial names. Traders will watch whether the HSTECH holds its 3 percent gain through the afternoon session and whether momentum extends to related mainland tech equities in the coming sessions.
