The Chinese AI developer behind the Kimi chatbot has taken its first formal step toward a Hong Kong listing, submitting a confidential A1 filing to HKEX this week at a reported $50 billion pre-money valuation.
The startup declined to comment on market speculation, saying it currently has no information to disclose, Chinese media reported.
The company is also advancing a new fundraising round at a $50 billion pre-money valuation, likely the final capital raise before its IPO. Moonshot AI completed a Series F round of more than $3.5 billion in July 2026, lifting its post-money valuation to $35 billion. Subscription demand exceeded the original target by more than three times, prompting an early close of that round.
The confidential filing puts Moonshot AI among the largest Chinese AI developers to pursue a Hong Kong listing, testing investor appetite for foundation-model companies. The company has not disclosed a proposed offer price, listing date, or lead underwriters.
The reported $50 billion pre-money valuation marks a 43 percent increase from the $35 billion post-money valuation set in July's Series F round. The jump reflects sustained investor demand for Chinese large-language-model developers as the sector races to commercialize generative AI products across consumer and enterprise applications.
The three-times oversubscription of the Series F round shows the depth of institutional interest in Moonshot AI's technology and growth trajectory. The early close of that round suggests the company had to cap allocations despite strong demand, a dynamic that typically supports pricing power in subsequent fundraising.
HKEX shares rose 2.4 percent on the day, with short-selling volume of $328.08 million representing a 21.9 percent ratio. The exchange has been courting Chinese technology companies seeking access to international capital.
A confidential filing allows a company to prepare its prospectus without immediate public disclosure, a common approach for large technology listings. The formal A1 document, once made public, will reveal the indicative offer price range, cornerstone investor commitments, and use of proceeds. Moonshot AI's Kimi assistant operates in China's competitive AI assistant market, where multiple developers are pursuing consumer and enterprise adoption.
The listing would rank among Hong Kong's largest technology IPOs in recent years if realized at the reported valuation. Investors will watch for the formal filing details and final pricing, which will determine whether Hong Kong can attract large-scale AI listings as competition among Chinese foundation-model developers intensifies.
