"This is the shift to software-as-an-agent, giving our platform the arms and legs to deliver autonomous security outcomes across the entire enterprise."
Console, an AI-native platform, enables agentic capabilities that let organizations apply AI-driven analysis and action across enterprise operations. The acquisition deepens agentic capabilities in Cortex, Palo Alto Networks' security operations platform, supporting teams as they investigate signals, prioritize work, and take action. The deal comes one day after CrowdStrike unveiled SafeMind at its Fal.Con conference in Las Vegas, a system built with Nvidia that pairs a red-team model (Red Tempest) with a defensive model (Blue Solano) to autonomously block attack paths.
The deal value was not disclosed. Palo Alto Networks, which serves 70,000+ customers and is powered by Unit 42 threat intelligence, is betting that agentic workflows — where software acts on natural-language instructions to remediate alerts automatically — will become the standard for security operations. The move positions PANW against CrowdStrike's Charlotte AI and SafeMind, as well as Microsoft's Security Copilot, in a market where enterprises are demanding AI-native platforms that can operate at machine speed.
Andrei Serban, co-founder and CEO of Console, said the company was built around a simple idea: "people should be able to express an operational goal, and intelligent software should handle the complexity required to achieve it." He said Console's customers have already proven that agents can "dramatically slash overhead" and transform their business.
The acquisition is the latest salvo in a broader arms race among cybersecurity vendors to deliver agentic AI. CrowdStrike's SafeMind, announced Sept. 1, uses Falcon sensor telemetry to create digital twins of enterprise environments, with Red Tempest emulating adversarial attack paths and Blue Solano learning from those attacks to fix vulnerabilities. CrowdStrike CEO George Kurtz said the system moves SecOps "closer to autonomous defense."
The Agentic AI Security Arms Race
The competitive stakes are significant. CrowdStrike processes trillions of security events per week through its Threat Graph, a proprietary graph database that maps relationships between security events and adversary intelligence. Its Charlotte AI uses a multi-AI architecture with over a dozen specialized agents to automate detection triage and response. Palo Alto Networks, by contrast, is building its agentic capabilities through acquisition, adding Console's natural-language workflow engine to its Cortex platform.
Microsoft, meanwhile, offers Security Copilot across its Defender and Sentinel products, leveraging its dominance of the enterprise operating system market. SentinelOne's Purple AI focuses on autonomous endpoint remediation, including ransomware rollback.
What's at Stake for Investors
Palo Alto Networks shares have been supported by its platformization strategy, which consolidates network, cloud, and security operations onto a single platform. The Console acquisition shows that the company sees agentic AI as the next battleground for security operations market share. The deal also comes as enterprises face a growing threat environment where attackers increasingly use AI to automate their operations.
For investors, the key question is whether PANW can integrate Console's capabilities quickly enough to match CrowdStrike's data advantage. CrowdStrike's Threat Graph, built on a decade of telemetry collection, gives its AI models a training data moat that is difficult to replicate. Palo Alto Networks' Cortex Data Lake, while substantial, has historically focused more on network and cloud data than endpoint telemetry.
The acquisition also points to broader M&A momentum in the AI-native cybersecurity sector. As enterprises demand platforms that can operate at machine speed, expect more consolidation among AI security startups.
