Ripple joins x402 Foundation as 1 million XRPL agentic transactions logged

Ripple became a premier member of the Linux Foundation's x402 project on July 14, joining 14 other premier members including Coinbase, Circle, Google and Mastercard to develop payment infrastructure for AI agents using XRP and RLUSD on the XRP Ledger.

"The x402 protocol gives AI agents a native way to pay that's as fast and reliable as the way they already exchange data," a Ripple spokesperson said. The firm has been building the necessary infrastructure since June, when it launched the XRPL AI Starter Kit enabling developers to integrate agentic payments with XRP and RLUSD.

The XRP Ledger has already processed more than 1 million agentic transactions, according to the XRPL Foundation. Ripple-backed t54.ai also launched an XRPL AI hub with support from Ripple developers and the XRPL Foundation, expanding the ecosystem of tools available for AI-to-blockchain payments.

The x402 Foundation operates under the Linux Foundation's neutral governance, allowing developers, financial institutions and cloud providers to shape the protocol's development collaboratively. Other premier members include Adyen, Amazon Web Services, American Express, Cloudflare, Fiserv, Monad Foundation, MoonPay, Shopify, Solana Foundation, Stellar Development Foundation, Stripe and Visa. General members include Injective, Near Foundation, Polygon Labs and Trump-backed World Liberty Financial.

The move positions XRP as a settlement asset for the emerging AI agent economy, where autonomous software agents execute transactions without human intervention. As AI agents take on more of the transaction lifecycle, the demand for fast, programmable payment rails is expected to grow, potentially driving increased usage of XRP and RLUSD on the XRPL.
